We are an all ages restaurant on the UCSD campus in La Jolla, California. We cater to students, staff, and faculty. We also welcome the general public.

    Porter's is trying to give students a reason to stay on campus. Whether it's time for a good meal at a good price, or just time to take a break from classes, we offer the best service on campus. We offer big portions of food at reasonable prices as well as a very comfortable atmosphere. We are also proud to offer one of the best draft selections around. We specialize in microbrews and imports.
    
We are generally open Mon-Fri 11:30am-11pm, and weekends for events. Our patio seating is available daily with occasional BBQ Action. The patio hours vary depending on weather, usage, and group reservations.

     In addition, we do a surprising amount of catering. We are available for food and beverage catering. Facility includes 3 spaces: the restaurant, stage room, and patio. Total capacity is 590 and all areas are licensed for beer fun. The stage room and patio may be reserved through UCSD Reservations(858.534.ROOM).

Porter's Pub was opened January 14,1993 by an alum, Rob Porter. We are located in UCSD's original pub facility. The facility was re-designed and re-modeled through a joint effort between the A.S., G.S.A., and the University Centers.


Here is the some background on how Rob opened the pub:
I opened Porter's Pub right after graduating from UCSD.  I was in the first class of Fifth College (ERC).  By my senior year I felt there weren’t enough cool hangouts on or near campus.  I hoped to open a place that would work but there wasn’t anywhere near campus that seemed like a good fit.  When I saw an article in the Guardian saying the old pub was going to be reopened, I was excited.  I found out which department was handling awarding the lease and the opportunity to open the pub.  University remodeled building, main change was to take the building from being one big privately run restaurant to being one small privately run restaurant and a big stage room and patio controlled by university.  Luckily for me, the selection committee of 5 people had 4 student reps from AS and GSA.  They gave my proposal the highest score and I opened 6 months later.

 We started with 12 taps, a tiny kitchen (much smaller than our current one), limited hours (UC didn’t let us open before 4pm), and there was no alcohol allowed on patio or stage room.  Over the years we’ve increased taps to 24 taps, increased kitchen space by 2-3 times, and added the whole stage room and patio to our licensed premises.
